A Newark man accused of strangling a woman to death in 2012, enters guilty plea.
On November 23, 2012 the body of Theresa Diggins, 58, of Newark, was found in the Passaic River near the 900 block of Route 21.
Investigation later revealed that Diggins' primary cause of death was strangulation but according to authorities the victim also sustained stab wounds and blunt force trauma to her head.
On June 10, Joseph Melillo pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaugher.
Sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 3 before Superior Court Judge Michael L. Ravin.
