A 19-year-old Guttenberg woman is facing a series of charges following a chaotic encounter with police and emergency responders during an early morning call on April 21, according to a statement released by the Guttenberg Police Department.

Authorities said officers were dispatched around 4:52 a.m. to an apartment on Jackson Street after a report of a physical altercation.

Upon arrival, officers heard loud yelling from inside and discovered the unit in disarray, with food spilled and smeared across the walls.

The disturbance reportedly stemmed from Martha S. Martillo demanding the return of her cell phone and sweater.

While officers spoke with the individual who contacted police, Martillo continued to yell uncontrollably.

To prevent any escalation, she was placed in handcuffs while police conducted their investigation.

According to the statement released by Guttenberg Police, emergency medical personnel from North Bergen were called to assess Martillo due to her agitated state.

Despite attempts to calm her, Martillo remained combative. Officers were eventually forced to carry her down a staircase after she refused to cooperate.

During this effort, police said she kicked one officer, and later, while being secured to a stretcher outside, she spit in another officer’s eye. When questioned, she stated she “needed to spit.”

The situation escalated further when Martillo allegedly bit a North Bergen EMT on the forearm and later bit another officer on the leg.

After a prolonged struggle, responders were able to transport her to a local hospital. While in the emergency room, Martillo reportedly assaulted another officer.

Martillo now faces several charges, including multiple counts of aggravated assault on law enforcement and EMS personnel, throwing bodily fluids, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct.

According to Guttenberg Police, the charges were filed under a complaint warrant, and she will be held at Hudson County Correctional Center following medical clearance.
