Officials are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the death of a man whose body was discovered on the NJ Transit tracks in Paterson Thursday evening, according to information released by NJ Transit.

The body of an unidentified adult male was located around 5:55 p.m. by the crew of an out-of-service train just east of the Route 80 overpass.
Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the man was struck by a train, and the cause of death remains under investigation.
Emergency personnel responded to the scene, prompting a temporary suspension of Main Line rail service in both directions between Paterson and Ridgewood.

Service was restored shortly after 7:30 p.m.
Law enforcement officials remained on-site into the evening as part of the active investigation.
The identity of the deceased has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.
