Newark authorities are investigating a hit-and-run that left a 9-year-old girl critically injured Tuesday morning.

According to Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, police were called to the area of Irvine Turner Boulevard and Spruce Street at around 7:36 a.m. after reports that a young girl had been struck by a vehicle.
Emergency responders transported the child to University Hospital, where she is listed in stable but critical condition.
The driver involved in the incident fled the scene, and no additional details have been released at this time.
The investigation is ongoing.
