Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) Somerset, part of RWJBarnabas Health, has strengthened its breast cancer care with cutting-edge technology and expert specialists, reinforcing its commitment to providing top-tier cancer treatment close to home.
Partnering with Rutgers Cancer Institute, the only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in New Jersey, the hospital continues to offer world-class services, including clinical trials, immunotherapy, genetic testing, and precision medicine to women in Central New Jersey.
The Sanofi US Breast Care Center at RWJUH Somerset’s Steeplechase Cancer Center recently introduced a new digital mammography unit, increasing availability for diagnostic mammograms and breast biopsies.

To better accommodate patients, the center now offers weekday evening and Saturday appointments for annual screenings.
Expanding its team of specialists, the Steeplechase Cancer Center recently welcomed Dr. Roshini George, DO, a medical oncologist specializing in breast cancer treatment.
She joins hematologist/oncologists Dr. Kathleen Toomey, MD, and Dr. Eshan Patel, MD, as part of Cancer and Blood Specialists, an RWJBarnabas Health Medical Group practice located at the center.
To enhance early detection and improve patient outcomes, RWJUH Somerset has integrated several innovative technologies into its breast cancer program:
- ImpediMed Sozo Technology: Detects lymphedema in its earliest stages, allowing treatment before symptoms develop and helping prevent chronic lymphedema.
- Magtrace Technology: A non-radioactive liquid tracer used to identify sentinel lymph nodes, potentially reducing unnecessary lymph node surgeries in some breast cancer patients.
- Magseed Marker Technology: A wire-free, minimally invasive localization seed that helps surgeons precisely locate cancerous tissue before surgery.
“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. George to our multidisciplinary breast cancer team as we continue to elevate the services available at RWJUH Somerset,” said Dr. Deborah Lue, Medical Director of Breast Cancer Services at the Steeplechase Cancer Center.
“With advanced technology and specialized expertise, we can better serve our community by providing the highest level of diagnostic, medical, and surgical care.”
The Steeplechase Cancer Center recently launched a breast cancer survivorship program to support patients during and after treatment.
This initiative integrates pre-treatment education, nutrition plans, exercise programs, and stress management techniques to help patients maintain their health and well-being throughout their journey.
“By incorporating preventative strategies and a multidisciplinary approach, we empower patients and enhance their recovery experience,” Dr. Lue explained.
“Functional assessments at the beginning of treatment are key to improving short- and long-term outcomes.”
In addition to medical advancements, the Steeplechase Cancer Center provides support groups and holistic therapies, such as tai chi, yoga, and horticulture therapy.
The Sanofi US Wellness Boutique, located in the center’s lobby, offers prosthetics, wigs, bras, and swimwear for women who have undergone mastectomies, further supporting patients as they navigate their cancer journey.
By combining state-of-the-art technology, leading specialists, and comprehensive support services, RWJUH Somerset continues to set new standards in breast cancer care, ensuring patients receive world-class treatment and compassionate support every step of the way.
