Authorities in Hudson County announced that on Monday, March 10, the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit arrested the driver involved in a hit-and-run collision that seriously injured a motorcyclist in Jersey City on Saturday, September 21, 2024.

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez stated that Nicholas Ortiz, 38, of Jersey City, is charged with Knowingly Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Collision Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury, Endangering an Injured Victim, and Tampering with Physical Evidence.
He was arrested in the area of Jersey Avenue and Aetna Street in Jersey City and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance, according to Hudson County officials.
Hudson County authorities said that at approximately 10:30 a.m. on September 21, 2024, the Jersey City Police Department was notified of a collision involving a motorcycle and a sedan in the area of Broadway and Wright Avenue.
Responding officers located the motorcycle operator, a 14-year-old juvenile male, with a serious injury to a lower extremity, HCPO officials say.
Hudson County officials said the sedan involved, later identified as a Lexus IS operated by Ortiz, did not remain at the scene.
