Authorities in Kenilworth are investigating a crash involving a police officer who was responding to a report of a suspicious person in a residential neighborhood.
According to police, the incident occurred at approximately 12:11 p.m. when Patrolman Marcus Trotman was dispatched to Wilshire Drive following a report of an individual wearing a mask and gloves in the area.
Given the heightened concern over a recent string of occupied home burglaries, the officer expedited his response with lights and sirens activated.
However, while en route to the call, Patrolman Trotman was involved in a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Boulevard and Coolidge Drive.
The impact of the crash caused the patrol car to veer into a telephone pole, further damaging the vehicle.
Fortunately, the other driver involved in the crash was not injured.
Patrolman Trotman was transported to Overlook Hospital for evaluation as a precautionary measure and was later released.
The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation.
Traffic Sergeant Ken Grady is leading the inquiry and is seeking any relevant video footage or information from witnesses. Those with details about the incident are encouraged to contact Sergeant Grady via email at Kgrady@kenilworthpolice.org.
