According to information released by the Union Township Police Department, the incident occurred on December 26, 2024, at the McDonald’s located on Route 22.

Detectives launched an investigation after receiving reports that a man had ignited and detonated a red smoke bomb inside the fast-food restaurant, potentially endangering employees and customers.

Investigators distributed a photo of the suspect to surrounding police departments, where several officers recognized him and provided information on his identity.

Additionally, after authorities posted his image on the department’s Facebook page, numerous citizens submitted tips, sharing both his name and social media accounts.

Following the investigation, detectives obtained criminal complaints against Kevin Hodge, 24, of Linden.

This week, he was finally located and taken into custody. Hodge now faces multiple charges, including Aggravated Arson, Criminal Mischief, and Causing Widespread Damage.

Following his arrest, Hodge was initially detained at Union County Jail before being transferred to Essex County Jail.
