A local man has been charged in connection with a fatal incident that took place on February 28, according to information released by Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Chief Frank LoSacco of the East Brunswick Police Department.
Authorities report that at approximately 12:14 p.m. on Thursday, 60-year-old Ashraf Tawfik of East Brunswick walked into the East Brunswick Police Department and allegedly confessed to killing his wife.
Officers immediately responded to his home on Yorktown Road, where they discovered 58-year-old Marsail Botros unresponsive.
Tragically, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Tawfik was taken into custody without resistance and has been formally charged with first-degree murder, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.
Authorities have not released how Botros was killed at this time.
He is currently being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center as he awaits a Pre-Trial Detention hearing.
