Police are searching for an armed suspect who fired multiple rounds in a South Ward neighborhood early Saturday morning before fleeing the scene.
According to authorities, the incident occurred around 3:10 a.m. near Ridgewood Avenue and West Runyon Street.
The city's ShotSpotter system, which detects and alerts police to gunfire, activated, prompting officers to respond swiftly to the area.

Upon arrival, officers discovered multiple shell casings, but after conducting a thorough search of the neighborhood, they found no victims.
The Newark Shooting Response Team has taken the lead in the investigation as police work to identify and locate the suspect, who remains at large.
Authorities have not yet released any suspect descriptions or additional details regarding the circumstances of the shooting.
