A significant recall has been issued for approximately 33,899 pounds of beef tallow processed and packaged without federal inspection, according to a statement released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

The recall affects products produced by Common Sense Soap, a company based in North Walpole, N.H., which processed the beef tallow on behalf of Lady May Tallow.

The affected products include:

- 24-fluid-ounce glass jars labeled “PREMIUM QUALITY GOODS Grass-fed beef TALLOW Lady May ALL NATURAL”

- 2-pound plastic tubs labeled “PREMIUM QUALITY GOODS Grass-fed beef TALLOW Lady May ALL NATURAL”

- 7.8- to 8-pound (1-gallon) plastic tubs labeled “PREMIUM QUALITY GOODS Grass-fed beef Original TALLOW Lady May ALL NATURAL”

- 16-pound plastic tubs labeled “PREMIUM QUALITY GOODS Grass-fed beef TALLOW Lady May ALL NATURAL”

These products lack the required USDA mark of inspection.

The recall stems from the fact that Common Sense Soap does not hold a federal grant of inspection, meaning it is not authorized to produce food products intended for human consumption.

Despite this, the tallow was labeled with nutrition facts, potentially misleading consumers into believing it met regulatory safety standards.

FSIS became aware of the issue after a local health department flagged concerns about the tallow products.

Investigators found that Lady May Tallow had contracted Common Sense Soap to handle processing, packaging, and labeling, despite the company’s lack of federal oversight.

The products were subsequently distributed to wholesalers and retail stores across the country.

Consumers who have purchased these products are advised not to consume them. FSIS has urged retailers and distributors to pull the items from shelves immediately.
