Police said a 33-year-old borough man is in stable condition after he allegedly walked into traffic on Monroe Avenue and was struck by a tractor-trailer Monday afternoon.
Kenilworth Police Chief John Zimmerman said the accident occurred after the man, identity is being withheld due to the nature of the incident, stepped into the roadway and was struck by a slow moving tractor trailer, which was traveling on Monroe Avenue near North 14th Street around 6:15 p.m.
When officers arrived, the 33-year-old Kenilworth resident was complaining of injuries to his torso.
Investigation determined that after some sort of dispute, the male allegedly stated his intentions to kill himself. Shortly after, the man entered the roadway.
The man was transported to Trinitas Hospital in Elizabeth, where he is listed in stable condition.
Police charged the man with disorderly conduct for creating a physically dangerous condition, being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a hypodermic needle, and jaywalking.
The man was released on the charges and later served with the complaints and a municipal court date.
