Consumers in New Jersey and other states are being cautioned about a potential health risk involving frozen, fully cooked Wegmans breaded chicken breast nuggets.According to a public health alert issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), the product may be contaminated with bone fragments and should not be consumed.
The alert applies to 46-ounce packages of "Wegmans FAMILY PACK FULLY COOKED Breaded Chicken Breast with Rib Meat," produced on August 26, 2024.
The packages have a "best if used by" date of August 26, 2025, printed on the back near the barcode, along with establishment number "P-33944" inside the USDA mark of inspection.
These products were distributed to Wegmans locations in several states, including New Jersey, as well as Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.
The public health alert was prompted by multiple consumer complaints received by Wegmans regarding bone fragments found in the product.
FSIS confirmed that the product is no longer available for purchase, and therefore, no recall was requested.
While there have been no confirmed injuries associated with the chicken nuggets, FSIS advises anyone who experiences health concerns after consuming the product to seek medical attention.
Consumers who have this item in their freezers are urged to discard it or return it to the store where it was purchased.
