Fairview Man Arrested in Machete Attack, Charged with Attempted Murder

A Fairview resident was arrested on Tuesday, January 21, in connection with a violent machete attack that left a woman hospitalized.Physical TherapyAccording to information provided by the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office, 37-year-old Josue G. Corea has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, and weapons offenses.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:10 a.m. at an apartment building on Day Avenue in Fairview, where police found a 49-year-old woman with a severe head injury.

She was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center and remains in stable condition.

Investigators determined that Corea, who also lives in the building, approached the victim near a stairwell and struck her in the head with a large machete. He allegedly attempted to strike her several more times before fleeing the scene.

Officers from the Cliffside Park Police Department apprehended Corea on River Road in Edgewater about 35 minutes later.

Corea is currently being held at the Bergen County Jail pending his first court appearance in Hackensack.
