The Hillside Municipal Council has announced the appointment of Dr. Angela R. Garretson as the new council member representing the 2nd Ward, a decision made official on January 17.
Dr. Garretson, a respected community leader and lifelong Hillside resident, expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to serve.
She extended her thanks to Council President Craig Epps, Council Member at Large Lisa Bonanno, 1st Ward Council Member Andrea Hyatt, and 4th Ward Council Member David Feuerstein for their trust in her leadership.
“I am deeply honored to represent the residents of the 2nd Ward and to contribute to the progress of our community,” Dr. Garretson said. “I am committed to ensuring Hillside continues to thrive, leveraging my experience and resources to bring meaningful change.”
Dr. Garretson’s extensive career in public service spans several roles, including School Board Member, Council Member, Mayor, and Union County Commissioner.
Currently, she serves as Chief Officer for Public and Community Affairs at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, further cementing her reputation as a dedicated advocate for education and community advancement.
As a Hillside resident for over four decades, Dr. Garretson brings deep ties and a unique perspective to her role.
She emphasized her commitment to working collaboratively with government officials and engaging with residents to address the challenges and opportunities facing the 2nd Ward.
The council and community leaders have voiced confidence in Dr. Garretson’s ability to lead effectively, citing her experience and passion for serving the town she has long called home.
