A Newark man associated with the Rollin’ 60s Neighborhood Crips gang has pleaded guilty to his involvement in a racketeering conspiracy, according to a statement released by Acting U.S. Attorney Vikas Khanna.

Jason Franklin, also known as “Freak,” 41, admitted his role before U.S. District Judge Susan D. Wigenton.

He pleaded guilty to a superseding indictment charging him with Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) conspiracy.

PizzaCourt documents and statements revealed that Franklin was a member of the Rollin’ 60s Neighborhood Crips from at least 2015 through September 22, 2022.

As a leader within the gang, Franklin directed members to commit various violent acts and engage in drug distribution across New Jersey and beyond.

One notable incident occurred on March 20, 2019, in Irvington, New Jersey, when Franklin ordered the murder of an individual in retaliation for the killing of a fellow gang member.

Another incident took place in early April 2021, when Franklin directed an attack on rival gang members, leading to the attempted murder of a person who sustained serious injuries in a shooting on April 5, 2021.

Franklin faces a maximum sentence of life in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. Sentencing is scheduled for May 21, 2025, at 11:00 a.m.

This case underscores federal efforts to dismantle violent criminal enterprises operating in New Jersey.
