Suspicious items in a checked bag arriving from Peru led to seizure of $87,000 (street value) worth of drugs at Newark International Airport. On May 29, officials grew suspicious of several items in a suitcase, belonging to Karlo Oscata, a U.S. Citizen who arrived from Lima, Peru.
After inspecting the items, a white powder found concealed in items like a picture frame, coasters, a bottle and packed jars, tested positive for cocaine. Totaling a combined weight of 5 pounds with a street value of $87,000.
Oscata is facing state drug smuggling charges, according to officials.
