The Essex County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a shooting incident that occurred Friday evening at Branch Brook Park in Newark.
According to authorities, a ShotSpotter device detected approximately nine rounds of gunfire on the Lake Street side of the park at around 6:10 p.m.
Officers responded to the scene and discovered shell casings, but no injuries have been reported.
The suspect reportedly fled the area and remains at large.
Investigators are working to determine the motive for the shooting, and the incident remains under active investigation.
Authorities urge anyone with information to come forward as the investigation continues.
