USDA: Walmart Chicken Curry Empanadas Mislabeling Alert

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a public health alert regarding mislabeled frozen Chicken Curry Empanadas, which may pose a risk to those with milk allergies.AdThe product, sold under the label “bettergoods TRADITIONALLY CRAFTED Chicken Curry Empanadas,” may actually contain Apple Cinnamon Empanadas, which include milk—a known allergen not declared on the packaging.

FSIS is alerting consumers to the issue to protect individuals with milk allergies, advising them not to consume the product.

A recall has not been initiated because the affected items are no longer available for purchase.

The products in question were produced on November 14, 2024, and packaged on November 20 and 21, 2024.

They were distributed nationwide through Walmart and can be identified by the following details:

- Packaging: 9.6-ounce cardboard boxes labeled as “bettergoods TRADITIONALLY CRAFTED Chicken Curry Empanadas”  

- Best By Dates: “05/21/26” or “05/22/26”  

-Establishment Number: “EST. P33967” on the side of the box  

The issue came to light when the manufacturing company alerted FSIS to complaints from four consumers who discovered Apple Cinnamon Empanadas inside packaging labeled for Chicken Curry Empanadas.

No illnesses or adverse reactions have been reported in connection with this incident.

However, FSIS advises anyone who may have consumed the product and is experiencing symptoms of an allergic reaction to seek medical advice.AdFor more information, FSIS encourages consumers to contact a healthcare provider or refer to their announcements for updates.

The agency’s alert serves as a precaution to safeguard individuals with allergies from unintended exposure.
