Suspect Wanted for Newark North Ward Armed Carjacking

Newark authorities are requesting the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect linked to a carjacking that took place on Thursday, November 28. AdThe incident is currently under investigation, with the Newark Police Department urging anyone with relevant information to come forward.  

According to Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr., the carjacking occurred around 1:10 p.m. on the 100 block of Sylvan Avenue.

A man was parking his vehicle when he was approached by a Hispanic male suspect who brandished a firearm and demanded the victim’s vehicle.

The suspect seized the car keys, and a second individual, described as a Black male, entered the front passenger seat before the pair fled eastbound on Sylvan Avenue toward Broadway.  

In addition to the vehicle, the suspects also took the victim’s wallet, which contained personal items and an EZ-Pass.  

 

Director Miranda has called on the public to assist in identifying the suspect by contacting the Newark Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477).  AdThe Newark Police Department continues to investigate the incident and encourages anyone with knowledge of the suspects' identities or whereabouts to reach out confidentially.
