A teenage boy was hospitalized after being shot near a school in Paterson on Monday evening, authorities said.
Gunfire erupted near Paterson Public School 25 on Vernon Avenue at approximately 6:35 p.m. Police responding to the scene found a 17-year-old boy suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.
Emergency medical personnel transported the teen to St. Joseph’s Medical Center, where his condition was not reported as life-threatening as of Tuesday morning.
During the investigation, police recovered a weapon from a dumpster on the school grounds, according to initial reports.
No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains active.
Authorities are continuing to search for suspects and determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
