A woman sustained serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle near the border of Newark and East Orange on Sunday evening.
The incident occurred shortly before 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of Alexander Street and South Orange Avenue.
Emergency responders from Newark were dispatched to the scene following reports of a person down in the roadway.
Upon arrival, firefighters from a nearby firehouse discovered the unidentified woman with severe injuries. She was quickly transported to University Hospital in Newark for treatment.
The extent of her injuries has not yet been confirmed.
The East Orange Police Department is leading the investigation into the accident.
