Newark West Ward Shooting Results in Vehicle Collision

Newark police are investigating a potential connection between a car crash and a shots-fired incident that occurred Saturday evening in the Fairmount section of the city.Ice CreamOfficers responded to reports of gunfire around 295 South 20th Street.

Upon arrival, they found evidence of a shooting, including multiple shell casings at the scene.

As police continued their investigation, they discovered two vehicles involved in a crash down the block.

Witnesses informed officers that immediately following the shooting, one of the cars sped away from the scene, ultimately colliding with another vehicle nearby.

Authorities have not yet determined whether the driver of the fleeing vehicle was involved in the shooting or was simply attempting to leave the area quickly.

No injuries were reported in connection with the gunfire.

Newark’s Shooting Response Team is leading the ongoing investigation to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
