Early Morning Gunfire in Newark’s West Ward Prompts Police Investigation

Police are investigating an early morning shooting that erupted in Newark’s West Ward on Sunday, prompting a rapid response from law enforcement.

The incident occurred around 1:40 a.m. when gunfire activated a ShotSpotter device in the vicinity of 33 Littleton Avenue.

Officers from Newark’s Shooting Response Team were dispatched to the scene, where they located several shell casings.

Despite an extensive search of the neighborhood, no victims were found.

Authorities also contacted area hospitals to check for walk-in patients with gunshot wounds, but no injuries were reported.

The suspect fled the scene before police arrived and remains at large. Police are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
