Newark authorities are searching for the driver responsible for a Christmas night hit-and-run that left a woman critically injured and a man hospitalized.
The incident occurred around 9:44 p.m. near the intersection of Bergen Street and South Orange Avenue in Newark’s Central Ward, according to Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda.
Police responded to reports of two pedestrians struck by a vehicle.
A man and woman were riding a moped through the intersection when they were hit.
The driver fled the scene without stopping.
Emergency responders transported the victims to University Hospital, located just a short distance from the crash site.
The man is in stable condition, while the woman remains critical. The investigation is ongoing. Police urge anyone with information about the driver or vehicle to contact authorities.
