Essex Prosecutor Investigating Police-Involved Shooting in Newark's North Ward

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office is currently investigating a police-involved shooting in Newark’s North Ward that left a man severely injured.AdThe incident occurred around 2:40 p.m. near North 9th Street and Springdale Avenue, with details still emerging.  

According to preliminary information, Newark Police officers were responding to an unspecified investigation when they encountered the suspect.

Sources indicate that officers reportedly observed the man firing at another individual. Police then returned fire, but no one was struck in that interaction.   

A weapon believed to belong to the suspect was recovered at the scene.

No police officers were injured in the incident.  

The victim shot by the suspect was killed.  

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office has arrived at the scene to lead the investigation, as is protocol for shootings involving law enforcement.

Authorities have not yet released further details, and the circumstances leading up to the incident remain under investigation.
