Authorities in Newark are investigating a heartbreaking incident in which a young child was struck by a vehicle outside a medical facility in the city’s South Ward.
According to a statement from Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, police responded to a distressing call at approximately 7:17 p.m. on Thursday.
The incident occurred near Beth Israel Medical Center at the intersection of Lyons Avenue and Maple Avenue.
A 6-year-old girl, crossing the street with her family near the hospital, was hit by a vehicle. Emergency responders quickly arrived, and the child was transported for medical attention.
The child is currently reported to be in stable condition.
Director Maranda said the driver involved in the incident remained at the scene and will cooperate with authorities as the investigation continues.
