New Jersey residents are starting the day to bone-chilling conditions this Friday morning, as a fierce northwest wind makes already cold temperatures feel downright icy.In Newark, thermometers read a freezing 32 degrees at dawn, but gusts of up to 27 mph have driven wind chill values down to a biting 23 degrees. It stays blustery through the afternoon.
The cold is even more pronounced in Sussex, Morris, and Passaic counties, where the mercury hovers near 27 degrees.
According to the National Weather Service, today’s forecast calls for mostly sunny skies and a high near 36 degrees, though wind chill values will range between 15 and 25 degrees.
A persistent northwest wind, blowing at 17 to 20 mph, will keep the day feeling brisk and unforgiving.
As evening approaches, skies will shift from mostly cloudy to mostly clear, with lows dipping to around 26 degrees.
With the wind continuing to play a factor, residents are encouraged to layer up and dress for the chill before heading out the door. Bundle up, New Jersey—it’s going to be a cold one.
