A devastating five-alarm fire swept through Menlo Manor, a senior residence on Inman Avenue in Edison, on Tuesday, leaving one person dead, 10 hurt and more than 100 residents displaced.
According to a statement released by Edison Mayor Sam Joshi, the blaze erupted at 1061 Inman Avenue. It prompted an extensive emergency response from multiple fire departments, including Edison, South Brunswick, and Metuchen.
Fire crews worked tirelessly to contain the inferno, which caused significant damage and forced a mass evacuation of the senior facility.
"Over 100 residents were displaced and have been provided food, lodging, and other necessities by the American Red Cross," the organization said.
Scenes from the incident revealed the extent of the destruction: charred apartments, shattered windows, and smoke billowing from the building.
Emergency responders were seen escorting elderly residents to safety, highlighting the gravity of the rescue operations.
Several agencies, including the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, are investigating the cause of the fire.
The tragic event has left the Edison community reeling. Officials continue to assess the damage and work toward ensuring the safety of all affected residents.
