Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting in Newark's South Ward that left one person dead on Sunday night.
The incident occurred around 9 p.m. in the 100 block of Huntington Terrace. Responding officers arrived to find an unidentified individual inside a building suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.
Police secured the neighborhood and notified the Essex County Prosecutor's Office after the incident was classified as a homicide.
Newark's Major Crimes Unit is assisting in the investigation, which remains active and ongoing.
No additional information has been released at this time.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact Newark Police or the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.
