Newark Police are investigating a shooting in the city’s South Ward early Sunday morning after a ShotSpotter device alerted authorities to gunfire.
The incident occurred around 1 a.m. near 284 Weequahic Avenue.
Responding officers taped off the block upon discovering multiple shell casings at the scene.
A search of the area, supported by the NPD-1 helicopter, failed to locate any victims. Detectives from the Shooting Response Team are leading the investigation, and the suspect remains at large.
Police have not reported a motive for the shooting.
