Newark Police are investigating a shots-fired incident that occurred early Sunday morning in the city’s South Ward as they search for a suspect and work to determine a motive.
According to initial reports, a ShotSpotter device alerted police to gunfire near 22 Bragraw Avenue around 3:25 a.m.
Responding units observed a vehicle speeding recklessly from the area and managed to stop the driver for questioning.
Meanwhile, officers canvassing the neighborhood discovered a vehicle damaged by bullets, though no victims were found inside. Over a dozen shell casings were recovered from the scene, but no injuries were reported.
Area hospitals were placed on notice for potential walk-in gunshot victims, but no one had sought treatment as of Sunday morning.
The investigation remains active, and no arrests have been reported.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact Newark Police.
