A 42-year-old Elizabeth resident has been charged in connection with a string of residential burglaries across Bergen County, according to a statement released by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.
The arrest of Jonnathan Diaz-Gomez followed an investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, led by Chief Matthew Finck, and the Paramus Police Department, under Chief Robert Guidetti. After officers responded to an attempted burglary on Ehret Street in Paramus, diaz-Gomez was initially taken into custody on April 27, 2024.
Police arriving at the scene observed a parked vehicle with multiple occupants and one suspect crouching nearby.
Upon their approach, the suspects scattered, but Diaz-Gomez, identified as the driver, was apprehended.
According to a statement released by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, Diaz-Gomez was charged with conspiracy to commit burglary, possession of burglary tools, and possession of a police scanner during the initial incident.
He was released pending further court proceedings.
A joint investigation involving the Prosecutor’s Office Crime Reduction Task Force and the Paramus Police Department later linked Diaz-Gomez to three additional residential burglaries.
On March 26, burglars reportedly entered a home on Hickory Avenue in Paramus through a first-floor window, stealing valuables after ransacking the residence.
On April 7, another burglary occurred on Bogert Road in River Edge. This time, a second-floor bedroom window was used to gain entry.
On April 20, burglars entered a Howland Avenue residence in River Edge through a kitchen window and stole a safe.
According to the statement, Diaz-Gomez was charged in connection with these incidents following further investigation, which identified a pattern consistent with the initial April 27 case.
Diaz-Gomez turned himself into the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office on November 19, 2024, in response to the new charges. He has since been released pending further action by the Bergen County Superior Court.
The case underscores continued efforts by law enforcement to address organized burglary rings in the region.
