A five-alarm fire that broke out in a residential building on Avenue C in Bayonne has left 17 people displaced and caused significant damage to multiple apartments.According to a statement released by Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, the Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force and the Bayonne Fire Department are investigating the incident.
The fire was reported at approximately 11:45 a.m. on Friday, November 22, 2024.
Upon arrival at 458 Avenue C, Bayonne firefighters encountered heavy smoke and flames originating from a bedroom in one of the apartments.
The blaze quickly spread to adjacent structures, escalating into a five-alarm fire.
Prosecutor Suarez said while six apartments were damaged, there were no reported injuries or fatalities. Emergency responders contained the fire and ensured the safety of residents.
However, the incident has left several families without homes.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force and the Bayonne Fire Department.
