Authorities are asking for the public's assistance in identifying a man captured on surveillance footage firing a weapon in Newark last month.
According to a statement released by Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr., the incident occurred on October 21 at approximately 6:45 p.m. in the 30 block of Arsdale Place.
Surveillance video shows the suspect, described as a Black male wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, blue hat, and dark-colored pants, firing a single round into the air.
The city's shot spotter detection system alerted police, who arrived at the scene shortly after and recovered one spent shell casing.
The suspect fled the area, heading eastbound on Arsdale Place and northbound on Grand Street.
Director Miranda Sr. urges anyone with information about the suspect to contact the Newark Police Division's 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477).
Tips can remain anonymous, and information leading to the identification of the suspect could result in a reward.
