Newark Man Accused of Robbing City Bank and Fleeing in Cab Caught

A 61-year-old Newark man has been charged in connection with the robbery of a city bank last week.

Yesterday, the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force responded to the area of South 8th Street around 1 p.m.,  after a tip was received claiming Clarence L. Smith was in the area.

Smith has been on the run since May 29, when he allegedly robbed the TD Bank on Mulberry Street of an undetermined amount of cash. 

Investigation revealed that following the robbery Smith fled in a cab to the area of Central Avenue and South 8th Street.

Smith has been charged with robbery and weapons offenses.
