A Newark Department of Public Works employee was arrested Tuesday morning following an alleged altercation involving a firearm.
According to Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, police responded to reports of a man with a gun near South 14th Street and Springfield Avenue around 7:16 a.m. on November 12, 2024.
The suspect, identified as Rahman Grimsley, 42, of East Orange, reportedly pointed a handgun at a female driver during an argument.
No injuries were reported from the incident.
Grimsley faces several charges, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, unlawful possession of an assault weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
However, as emphasized by Newark authorities, these charges are currently accusations, and Grimsley is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
This incident highlights ongoing efforts by Newark officials to address public safety concerns in the community.
