Authorities in Hudson County announced that on Monday, November 4, the Honorable Judge Mitchell Pascual sentenced Justin Goris to 15 years in New Jersey State Prison for the February 2022 death of Devin Bryant, 15, of Jersey City.
Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez stated that Goris, 20, of Queens, New York, pleaded guilty to Aggravated Manslaughter on July 31, 2024.
According to Hudson County officials, Goris’ sentence is subject to the No Early Release Act, and he is parole ineligible until 85 percent of his sentence is served.
Goris, who was 17 years old at the time of the fatal shooting, was initially charged as a juvenile before being waived to the Criminal Division.
Hudson County officials said that on February 12, 2022, members of the Jersey City Police Department responded to the area of 112 Myrtle Avenue on a report of shots fired.
The responding officers found a male victim outside that location with an apparent gunshot wound, Jersey City Police said.
According to Hudson County authorities, the injured male, later identified as Bryant, was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center, and he was pronounced dead at approximately 9:10 p.m.The Northern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death to be a Gunshot Wound to the Abdomen and the manner of death to be Homicide, Hudson County authorities stated.
