Newark and the North Jersey region are waking up to a brisk 42 degrees at 5 a.m. on this chilly Sunday morning, with temperatures just above freezing in Sussex, Morris, and Passaic counties.The area remains exceptionally dry, with Newark seeing no precipitation for about 27 days, raising concerns for potential wildfires.
Dry conditions started a wildfire Saturday afternoon near Route 10 in Livingston, Western Essex County.
Although the winds are expected to calm today, the region remains under a brush fire hazard due to the ongoing drought-like conditions.
According to the National Weather Service, today will be sunny with a high near 58 degrees, and tonight will be mostly clear with a low around 40 degrees.
