Newark Police are investigating a shots fired incident that occurred in the city's West Ward early Saturday morning around 3 a.m.Officers responded to reports of gunfire near 620 South Orange Avenue, close to Gladstone Avenue, after being alerted by a ShotSpotter device.
Upon arrival, officers found shell casings and quickly taped off the area to begin their investigation.
No victims were found at the scene.
Later, hospital officials at Englewood Hospital in Bergen County notified their local authorities of a male who entered the emergency room around 3:50 a.m., suffering from a gunshot wound.It is unclear at this time whether the incident is connected to the Newark shooting.
The investigation remains active as police work to determine any potential links.
