A woman sustained non-life-threatening injuries after being grazed by a bullet in a shooting incident in Newark’s Central Ward on Sunday evening.
The shooting occurred around 7:20 p.m. near Sonic Restaurant, located at 245-257 Court Street.
A ShotSpotter device alerted police to approximately a dozen rounds of gunfire in the area.
Upon arrival, officers were informed by a security officer at a nearby ShopRite supermarket that one of the stray bullets had entered a store window, though no one inside was injured.
As police canvassed the area, they located a female victim who had been grazed by gunfire. Additionally, property damage was reported at 243 Court Street.
Authorities are investigating whether the shooting involved an exchange of gunfire between multiple suspects.
The shooters fled the scene and remain at large. The investigation is ongoing.'
