Newark Police are investigating a series of overnight shootings that took place in several neighborhoods across the city, with none of the incidents resulting in injuries.
ShotSpotter devices played a critical role in alerting authorities to the gunfire.
The first incident occurred around 9 p.m. on Friday when a ShotSpotter device alerted police to gunfire near Stratford Place and Clinton Avenue.
Officers arrived at the scene and found shell casings, but after canvassing the area, no victims were located. The suspect fled the scene and has not yet been apprehended.
Just after midnight on Saturday, gunfire erupted again, this time near Osborne Terrace and Nye Avenue.
Upon arrival, police taped off a portion of the South Ward neighborhood after discovering multiple shell casings. A search of the area indicated no victims were involved.
A third shooting took place at approximately 12:35 a.m. near 38 Willoughby Street, where a ShotSpotter device once again alerted authorities to the scene.
Officers located ballistics but found no injuries after searching the neighborhood. The suspect responsible for the gunfire remains at large.
Newark's Shooting Response Team has been called in to assist with all the overnight investigations, which are still ongoing.
No arrests have been made in connection to these incidents.
