Newark and the North Jersey region are waking up to some of the coldest temperatures of the season, with the thermometer reading 45 degrees in Newark at 4:30 a.m.
Sussex County dropped below freezing at 30 degrees, while Morristown recorded 36 degrees and Paterson 40 degrees.
Though the skies will be mostly clear today, residents will feel the chill, so keep a jacket handy.
The cold snap, however, is expected to be short-lived, with temperatures trending towards the mid to upper 70s starting Friday.
According to the National Weather Service, today will be sunny with a high near 60 degrees and a north wind of 6 to 10 mph.Tonight, the clear skies will continue, with lows around 44 degrees.
