BREAKING: Man Severely Injured After Gunman Fired Over a Dozen Rounds in Newark’s Fairmount Section

Police are investigating a shooting in Newark's West Ward after a man was shot multiple times on Sunday evening.

A ShotSpotter device detected more than 15 gunshots in the vicinity of 188 South 6th Street at approximately 7:27 p.m., alerting law enforcement to the scene.

Upon arrival, officers found an unidentified male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his abdomen.

Emergency medical services were immediately requested, and the victim's condition is being described as severe. A car was also struck by bullets. 

Police have secured the area and, at this time, there is only one reported victim.

The suspect fled the scene and remains at large. This evening’s  shooting makes it the fourth shooting in Newark for the day with three victims injured. 

The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue their search for the shooter.
