Police apprehended an armed carjacker early Sunday morning after a chaotic series of events that included a car crash and theft of a vehicle at knifepoint.According to initial reports, the incident began around 2:15 a.m. near a Wendy's on US-46.
South Hackensack Police were alerted to an armed carjacking in progress. They arrived to find a victim who reported that a black male suspect, brandishing a knife, had demanded the keys to their green Toyota Sienna.
The suspect, described as wearing a grey hoodie and sporting a beard, fled the scene in the stolen vehicle.
During the course of his escape, the suspect made his way onto the George Washington Bridge, where police officers confronted him.
After a brief struggle, officers were able to take the suspect into custody. Two officers suffered slash injuries during the encounter and were transported to area hospitals for treatment.
Their injuries are reported to be non-life-threatening.
The incident is under active investigation, and no further details have been released at this time.
