Newark Police are searching for a gunshot victim who fled the scene after being shot in the South Ward.
Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé announced that Mr. Hakeem R. Smith, 33, of Newark, is wanted for questioning in connection with the incident, where he was identified as the victim.
Officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert around 4:47 p.m. on September 27, 2024, in the 100 block of Shephard Avenue.
Upon arrival, they discovered two 9 mm shell casings at the scene.
Smith, described as 6 feet tall and weighing 205 pounds, was later identified as the individual who had been shot.
