The Newark Shooting Response Team is investigating a shots fired incident that erupted in the city’s South Ward on Tuesday night.The incident occurred around 7:05 p.m. near the intersection of Foster Street and Frelinghuysen Avenue.
Police were alerted to the shooting by a ShotSpotter device, which detected multiple gunshots in the area.
Officers quickly responded and secured the scene, finding several shell casings where the ShotSpotter alert erupted in the community.
Authorities checked local hospitals for potential walk-in gunshot victims, but no injuries have been reported. The suspect fled the scene and remains at large.
The motive for the shooting is still under investigation, and the Newark Shooting Response Team is actively working to gather more information.
No arrests have been made at this time.
