HP Hood LLC has announced a recall of five varieties of its 96-ounce LACTAID Milk containers due to the potential presence of trace amounts of almond, an allergen not declared on the label.
According to the company, individuals with an allergy or severe sensitivity to almonds could face serious or life-threatening reactions if they consume the affected products.
No illnesses have been reported to date.
The recall applies to select 96-ounce containers of LACTAID Milk distributed to retailers and wholesalers in several states, including Alabama, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
The impacted products were shipped between September 5 and September 18, 2024.
The specific containers involved in the recall can be identified by the code "51-4109 P2" and a corresponding "Best By" date, both of which are printed on the top center area of the container.
This recall only affects products with these specific identifiers.
According to HP Hood, the issue was detected during routine maintenance checks, which revealed the possibility of cross-contamination with almond traces.
The company is coordinating the recall with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Consumers who have purchased the recalled LACTAID Milk are encouraged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund or exchange.
