UPDATE: Perth Amboy Man Charged in Deadly Motorcycle Crash

A Perth Amboy man has been charged in connection with a fatal crash that occurred on August 23, 2024. The incident, which took place at the intersection of Kamm Road and Convery Boulevard, involved a motorcycle and two passenger vehicles.AdAccording to Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone Authorities police received a 911 call at approximately 5:55 p.m. reporting a serious collision in the area. 

Upon arriving at the scene, officers found 25-year-old Michael Fernandez of Perth Amboy lying in the roadway with severe injuries.  

Fernandez was rushed to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital but tragically succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

The investigation, conducted by Detective Kyle Savoia of the Perth Amboy Police Department and Detective Matthew Colonna of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, revealed that Fernandez was attempting to turn onto Convery Boulevard when his motorcycle was struck by a sedan driven by 61-year-old Jorge Lopez, also of Perth Amboy.  

The impact caused the sedan to collide with another vehicle, leaving the driver of the second car with minor injuries.

On Friday, September 20, Lopez surrendered to the Perth Amboy Police Department.AdHe has been charged with second-degree vehicular homicide, driving while intoxicated, and other related motor vehicle offenses.
