Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the indictment of 61-year-old Timothy C. Moots of Hasbrouck Heights on charges related to hindering the investigation of a fatal motor vehicle accident in Ridgefield.

The incident occurred on the evening of April 14, 2024, when Ridgefield Police responded to a crash involving a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck and a motorized scooter at the intersection of Shaler Boulevard and Edgewater Avenue. AdThe collision claimed the life of 15-year-old Serenity Law of Ridgefield, who was operating the scooter at the time.

The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Accident Investigation Unit was called to the scene, initiating a joint investigation.

Authorities later determined that Moots had provided misleading information to law enforcement, attempting to downplay his involvement in the incident and obstruct the investigation.

The charges against Moots were unsealed on September 10, 2024, following a Grand Jury indictment. AdHe is expected to appear in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack for an upcoming arraignment.
